Members of the The Texas Association of Fraternal Insurance Counselors and Brother Knights from
Cypress, Texas and surrounding help at the Special Olympics Basketball Tournament March 7, 2009
Event: Special Olympics Basketball Tournament
Date:
Saturday, March 7, 2009
Place: Goodson Middle – Cypress, Texas
Outside, the weather was cool, the wind brisk,
but inside, Special Olympic Athletes were steaming up the court, it was
Basketball at it’s best! The tournament was held at several gyms across
the Cy-Fair ISD with approximately 600 athletes participating. The
sight I visited and work was Goodson Middle School. Games were exciting
and very competitive, lots of activity through out the day. On the
volunteering efforts, a big show of support for this event was from the
Tony Rangel Agency, and his dedicated field agents, all members of the
Texas Association of Fraternal Insurance Counselors. All with the
exception of one helpful member, Ronnie Sturn, the remaining crew was
made up of Brother Knights. I discovered that these men called Knights
have been cooking for this particular event for about 12 years and have
been involved with the Special Olympics in one way or another for almost
19 years. A truly dedicated group, some of these members, James Braus
came from as far as Bridge City, Texas and Al Musson made the drive from
Silsby, Texas. Tony and his crew arrived early, set up their cooking
station and went on to feed all the hungry athletes, volunteers and S.O.
staff on sight. A big thank you to Tony and company, which also included
many of the wives, for exhibiting the true meaning of charity and
generosity.
